nested case-control study on dietary fat consumption and the risk for gallstone disease

Preference for fatty foods may promote the development of gallstone disease.

This study set out to investigate the dietary fat-gallstone disease connection hypothesis. Information about the eating habits and health of 144 persons who volunteered for this study were extracted from validated dietary questionnaires and hospital records.

Researchers observed that the odds of developing gallstone disease were stacked against frequent consumers of fatty foods. This study highlighted the detrimental role high dietary intake of fatty foods play in the development of gallstone disease.
