Maté consumption association with upper aerodigestive tract cancers: A systematic review and meta-analysis.
Frequent consumption of mate may facilitate the development of oral, laryngeal, pharyngeal, and esophageal cancer
This study examined the link between mate drinking and the probability of developing cancer in the upper aerodigestive (UADT) region, including the mouth, pharynx, larynx, and esophagus. Researchers conducted a meticulous meta-analysis on data drawn out from 33 studies. \
Researchers found out that the frequency of occurrence of oral, laryngeal, pharyngeal, and esophageal cancer was high among avid consumers of mate beverage. "According to published data, regardless of the temperature, maté consumption significantly increased the odds of occurrence of UADT cancer," the authors concluded.
