The Intake of Ultra-Processed Foods and Prevalence of Chronic Kidney Disease: The Health Examinees Study

Individuals may worsen their risk of developing chronic kidney disease by upping their rate of ingestion of ultra-processed foods.

This study determined the influence of ultra-processed food consumption on chronic kidney disease (CKD) risk. Researchers collated and evaluated data on the dietary choices and chronic kidney disease diagnosis status of individuals who took part in the 2004-2013 Health Examinees (HEXA) study. 

Researchers noted that greater intake of ultra-processed foods correlated with higher prevalence of chronic kidney disease in the study population. This study affirmed the notion that increased dietary exposure to ultra-processed foods may be harmful to kidney health.
