The role of composite dietary antioxidants in elderly cognitive function: insights from NHANES

Favoring the intake of foods high on antioxidants may help enhance cognitive function and delay cognitive decline in older adults.

This study determined if greater consumption of antioxidant-containing foods is tied to lower incidence of cognitive decline in elderly men and women. Researchers used validated questionnaires to track the eating habits and cognitive performance of 2,516 US men and women aged 60 years and above.

Researchers discovered that regular ingestion of antioxidant-rich foods slowed down cognitive decline and improved cognitive function in older adults. This study highlighted the beneficial effect of high antioxidant diets on cognitive function in elderly men and women.
