Intake of Fruits and Vegetables in Relation to 10-year Weight Gain Among Spanish Adults

Avid consumption of fruits and vegetables may help to keep excess pounds at bay.

This study analyzed the association between frequent consumption of fruits and vegetables and the prevalence of weight gain among Spanish adults. Researchers followed 206 healthy volunteers aged 15-80 years for 10 years, monitoring their eating habits and weight during this period.

Researchers discovered that habitual intake of fruits and vegetables aided the attainment and maintenance of a healthy weight. Participants who consumed more than 333 grams of vegetables per day slashed their risk of gaining 3.41 kg in 10 years by as much as 84%. The results of this study suggest that compliance with diets rich in fruits and vegetables can help curb significant weight gain and obesity.
