Plant foods and risk of laryngeal cancer: A case-control study in Uruguay.
Habitual consumption of generous portions of plant foods, such as fruits, vegetables, and legumes, may help to halt the onset of laryngeal cancer.
This study evaluated the impact of high dietary intake of plant foods on laryngeal cancer risk. Researchers matched dietary choices with laryngeal cancer odds ratios in a study population comprising of 592 men and women from Uruguay.
Researchers discovered that regular consumers of diets rich in of plant foods, such as fruits, vegetables, and legumes, had better chances of avoiding laryngeal cancer. On the other hand, the combined effect of cigarette smoking and low level of consumption of fruits and vegetables was associated with increased risk of laryngeal cancer. This study concluded that adherence to an whole-food plant-based diet may reduce the likelihood of laryngeal cancer occurring in individuals.
