Consumption of Sweet Beverages and Cancer Risk. A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Observational Studies
An individual's risk of having cancer, including breast, colorectal, prostate, and pancreatic cancer, may increase with the consumption of sugary beverages.
This study conducted a meta-analysis on 27 published studies that documented the results of the association between sugary beverage intake and the probability of suffering from cancer. Researchers sourced these studies from PubMed, Web of Science, and SCOPUS databases.
Researchers found out that consistent consumption of sweetened beverages resulted in a hike in breast, prostate, pancreatic, and colorectal cancer risk. This study came to the conclusion that individuals' love for sugared beverages may increase their predisposition to different types of cancer.
