Dietary fat and prostate cancer progression and survival
High saturated fat intake may increase a prostate cancer patient's risk of dying from that prostate cancer.
This study investigated the relationship between dietary fat intake and prostate cancer survival rate. Using a comprehensive diet history questionnaire, trained nutritionists monitored the diet of 384 prostate cancer patients living in Quebec City for a median duration period of 5.2 years. Researchers found out that patients who consume large quantities of saturated fats are three times more likely to die from prostate cancer than those with low dietary fat intake. These findings provide evidence that high saturated fat intake may diminish a patient’s chances of surviving prostate cancer.
