Alcohol Consumption and Risk of Gastric Cancer: The Japan Collaborative Cohort Study
Generous ingestion of alcoholic beverages may bump up stomach (gastric) cancer risk in men and women.
This study determined the risk of gastric (stomach) cancer based on the level of alcohol consumption. Researchers followed nearly 55,000 Japanese men and women for 13.4 years, monitoring their alcohol drinking habits and stomach cancer diagnosis status with the aid of questionnaires and hospital records respectively.
Researchers discovered that habitual drinking of alcohol heightened the likelihood of gastric cancer occurring in men and women. The results of this study show that regular intake of alcohol may facilitate the development of stomach cancer.
