Ultra-Processed Food Consumption and Adult Diabetes Risk: A Systematic Review and Dose-Response Meta-Analysis
Preference for ultra-processed foods may edge an individual closer to a diagnosis of type 2 diabetes.
This meta-analysis clarified the role consistent consumption of ultra-processed foods play in the development of type 2 diabetes. Data from 5 studies were utilized for this meta-analysis.
Researchers found a surge in type 2 diabetes risk among regular eaters of ultra-processed foods. The odds of developing type 2 diabetes were observed to rise further by 15% among participants who increased their rate of consumption of ultra-processed foods by 10% in this study. Based on the data from this study, heavy intake of ultra-processed foods may facilitate the onset of type 2 diabetes.
