Meat consumption and the risk of type 2 diabetes: a systematic review and meta-analysis of cohort studies.
High consumption of red and processed meats may increase type 2 diabetes risk.
This research work was carried out to determine the correlation between meat intake and type 2 diabetes risk. Researchers reviewed dietary and clinical data extracted from 12 cohort studies on the subject. They found a high risk of type 2 diabetes among subjects on high meat diets. The findings of this meta-analysis support the hypothesis greater type 2 diabetes risk is associated with increased intake of diets high in red and processed meat products.
