Red and processed meat consumption and cancer outcomes: Umbrella review
Eating red and processed meat products regularly can lead to the development of various forms of cancer, including breast, colorectal, gastric, lung, nasopharyngeal, endometrial, oral, prostate, and esophageal cancer.
This study evaluated the risk of cancer associated with dietary intake of red and processed meat. Researchers conducted a meticulous meta-analysis on data obtained from 72 studies.
Researchers discovered that consumers of red and processed meats had greater odds of being diagnosed with different types of cancer, including breast, colorectal, gastric, lung, nasopharyngeal, endometrial, oral, prostate, and esophageal cancer. This meta-analysis adds to the growing body of evidence that state that red and processed meat might be a risk factor for cancer.
