Dietary sodium intake and incidence of diabetes complications in Japanese patients with type 2 diabetes: analysis of the Japan Diabetes Complications Study (JDCS)
Type 2 diabetes patients who regularly consumed generous portions of sodium-rich foods may be prone to developing cardiovascular complications of the disease.
This study explored the association between a high sodium diet and the occurrence of complications of type 2 diabetes (T2DM). Researchers looked at the sodium-consuming habits of 1,588 type 2 diabetes patients.
Researchers noted that followers of high sodium diet had great tendency to suffer from cardiovascular complications of diabetes. This study highlighted the harmful effect of increased dietary intake of sodium on the health of patients with type 2 diabetes.
