Fruit and vegetable consumption and risk of cardiovascular disease: A meta-analysis of prospective cohort studies.

A decline in cardiovascular disease risk is associated with consistent consumption of fruits and vegetables.

This study assessed the relationship between high dietary intake of fruits and vegetables and the occurrence of cardiovascular diseases by meta-analysis. Thirty-eight (38) studies that examined more than one million subjects were included in this meta-analysis. Researchers found out that subjects who consumed the highest quantities of fruits and vegetables had the lowest cardiovascular disease risk in this study. The results of this study further lend support to the hypothesis that regular consumption of diets loaded with fruits and vegetables may be beneficial in the prevention of cardiovascular diseases.
