Isoflavone consumption and risk of breast cancer: a dose-response meta-analysis of observational studies.
High dietary ingestion of isoflavones may significantly reduce breast cancer risk.
The objective of this study was to conduct a meta-analysis on studies that investigated the association between increased dietary exposure to isoflavones and breast cancer risk. A total of 21 studies were included in this meta-analysis,
Researchers observed that high intake of isoflavone from food sources was associated with a significant reduction in breast cancer risk in Asian populations, but not in Western populations. According to the authors of this study, low isoflavone consumption may be responsible for the insignificant effect of isoflavone on breast cancer risk in Western populations. Data from this study indicate that habitual consumption of isoflavone-containing foods may exert a protective effect against breast cancer.
