Dose-risk relationships between cigarette smoking and cervical cancer: a systematic review and meta-analysis
Cigarette smoking may facilitate the transformation of normal cells in the cervix into cancerous tumors.
This study focused on the role of cigarette smoking in the development of cervical cancer. Researchers performed a meticulous meta-analysis on data extracted from 109 studies.
Researchers discovered that cervical cancer occurred at a high rate among current smokers, irrespective of the human papilloma virus (HPV) infection status of a woman. In contrast, cessation of smoking was associated with a marked reduction in cervical cancer risk in this study. Data from this study revealed that cigarette smoking may trigger the onset of cervical cancer
