Choline intake and risk of lethal prostate cancer: incidence and survival.
High intake of eggs, meat, and milk, which are excellent sources of choline, may increase the risk of prostate cancer development.
This study investigated the role of dietary choline and choline-containing compounds in the development of prostate cancer. Using a validated food questionnaire, researchers studied patients’ post-diagnostic choline intake in 4282 cases of non-metastatic prostate cancer. The diets of 47,856 men in the Health Professionals Follow-Up Study were also examined.
Researchers observed that high consumption of choline-containing compounds increased the risk of developing lethal prostate cancer. This study provides strong evidence that choline-rich foods, such as eggs, meat, and milk, promote the development of lethal prostate cancer.
