Onion and garlic use and human cancer.

Frequent consumption of onions and garlic may lower the risk of oral, pharyngeal, laryngeal, esophageal, breast, prostate, colorectal, ovarian, and kidney cancers.

This study investigated the role of consistent consumption of onions and garlic in the prevention of cancer. Researchers examined data on the onions and garlic intake of a large number of subjects residing in Switzerland and Italy. The relative risk of cancer was assessed in all the participants in this study.

Researchers observed that regular consumers of diets high in onions and garlic had slim chances of developing cancerous cells and tumors in the mouth, pharynx, larynx, esophagus, breast, prostate, colon, rectum, ovary, and kidney. The results of this study show that generous intake of diets rich in onions and garlic may play an important role in protecting individuals from oral, pharyngeal, laryngeal, esophageal, breast, prostate, colorectal, ovarian, and kidney cancers.
