Tobacco use and nasopharyngeal carcinoma in a cohort of US veterans.
Cigarette smoking may put an individual at high risk of developing nasopharyngeal cancer.
This study was conducted to assess the correlation between tobacco smoking and the likelihood of developing nasopharyngeal cancer. Researchers investigated the tobacco usage and nasopharyngeal cancer risk of about 250,000 US veterans.
Researchers found out that the chances of suffering from nasopharyngeal cancer was 4-fold higher in current smokers than in non-smokers, with nasopharyngeal cancer risk even rising further by 6.4-fold in individuals who smoked more 2 packs of cigarette per day. The findings of this study reveal that cigarette smokers may a high tendency to develop nasopharyngeal cancer.
