Dietary consumption of phytochemicals and breast cancer risk in Mexican women

Adequate intake of plant foods loaded with phytochemicals may lower breast cancer risk in women.

Phytochemicals are compounds present in plant foods. This study investigated the hypothesis that high compliance with a diet that promotes the consumption of plant foods rich in phytochemicals may help protect women from breast cancer. Researchers studied the diets of 141 Mexican women diagnosed with breast cancer and 141 healthy females.

Researchers observed that consuming plant foods packed with phytochemicals resulted in a decline in breast cancer risk in women. The findings of this study support the hypothesis that frequent ingestion of phytochemicals from food sources may increase a woman's chances of keeping breast cancer at bay.
