Dietary fiber intake reduces risk for colorectal adenoma: a meta-analysis.
High dietary ingestion of foods rich in dietary fiber may offer individuals significant protection against colorectal adenoma and cancer.
Colorectal adenoma is the precursor of colorectal cancer. This study assessed the role regular consumption of dietary fiber play in the prevention of colorectal adenoma. Researchers analyzed nutritional and clinical data obtained from 20 studies that examined 10,948 cases of colorectal adenomas. The research team observed that subjects who consistently consumed high-fiber foods demonstrated a significant reduction in the risk of developing colorectal adenomas. The results of this study show that generous intake of foods with high fiber content may help inhibit the development of cancerous cells in the colon and rectum.
